UPDATE: This one sold fast! But there are many more amazing fourbies for sale out there. Check here for the latest.
Ford called this color combo Village Green & Ivy Glow, but we nicknamed it “avocado” for obvious reasons. Whatever you call it, it looks absolutely unbelievable on this 1974 Ford F-250 Ranger XLT that 4-Wheel Classics has listed for sale for $32,900. This dentside Ford is a California truck that was restored recently, including a body off respray of its factory colors, new door seals and weatherstripping, and a newly rebuilt motor with some go-fast modifications. Also, that color. Big swoon.
The Model.
We first saw this truck in the background of the photos of the ‘83 Chevy K10 we featured from 4-Wheel Classics, and we instantly fell in love. We couldn’t wait for them to launch it live so we could fall even deeper in love. Well, it happened.
It’s a Ford F-250, a line of Ford pickups that earned the nickname “highboy.” According to the folks at Ford Truck Enthusiasts, the highboy is a nickname for a 4WD 250 produced between 1967 and 1977. This colloquialism comes from the fact that these came with a divorced transfer case, causing the front end of the truck to sit higher. To compensate for this extra height, the factory installed 4” lift blocks in the rear to even things out. Ford switched to married transfer cases midway through the 1977 model year, at which point people began to differentiate the two by calling trucks with the new setup “lowboys.”
This rig was also a “dentside” Ford. Like highboy, dentside was a fan-derived term that referred to an aesthetic characteristic. In this case, it referred to the horizontal concave line that ran down the entire body of the truck’s belt line, but this term actually described the design language employed for the full line of Ford trucks from 1973 to 1979, not just the F-250.
