There is only one word needed to describe this 1943 Ford GPW: STUNNING! This remarkable vehicle surely represents one of the finest WW2 jeeps ever offered for sale in North America. From front to rear, every nut, bolt and washer has received attention. The sublime craftsmanship speaks for itself, and we are happy to answer any questions you may have. The engine bay is a true work of art: Spotless perfection, and (thank goodness!) the jeep retains its exceedingly valuable 6-Volt electronics - something many WW2 jeep aficionados consider absolutely essential. The lively battery is but a year old, while the battery cables themselves are both brand new high-quality factory reproductions. They look wonderful. The jeep’s original engine has been replaced at some point in its inspiringly long life. The current motor remains a (visually identical) L134 ‘Go Devil’ motor, but of the later Willys design, featuring the much-welcomed strengthened cylinder head and the upgraded ‘gear driven’ camshaft: this a factory enhancement to supersede the tired, sometimes problematic ‘chain drive’ system. Although the judges of the Pebble Beach concours d’elegance might dock a point for this subtle powertrain upgrade, we feel it represents a perfectly sensible improvement; greatly increasing engine durability, helping to keep this iconic WW2 jeep reliable for many more years to come. The engine is newly painted in correct high-gloss Ford GPW grey, the fuel filter too, and brand new parts include the carburettor and fuel pump; distributor cap and rotor; plug wires and spark plugs. The dwell angle has been set to forty-two degrees, the ignition timing a perfect five degrees; these factory settings endowing the engine with ‘sewing machine’ smoothness. The five tires of this show-stopper look near unused. The correct ‘pioneer tools’ are present. The rear is equipped with a freshly painted ‘gas’ jerry can. The flanks of the jeep feature a full complement of four period correct GI cargo packs, and two period correct water canteens. The jeep also features a bespoke ‘aged timber’ toolbox, designed to fit precisely between the front bumper and the jeep’s iconic grille. This stunning toolbox - a custom commission crafted by famed WW2 historian, jeep restorer, and Formula 1 television celebrity broadcaster Steve Matchett – has had its patina-aged exterior woodwork military stencilled. Painstaking attention to detail, resulting in Hollywood, movie prop perfection. The toolbox stencilling is an emotion driven tribute to the mighty 101st Airborne, E Company, the legendary ‘band of brothers’ during their ‘battle of the bulge’ campaign of December 1944. The jeep’s ‘olive drab green’ paintwork looks amazing, and beyond its natural patina there is no discernible rust on the bodywork, tub, fenders, grille, and hood. The inside of the cockpit, frame and underbody, also perfect. The hood has been painstakingly stencilled with the period correct ‘olive drab blue’ USA registration numbers, and the essential white ‘D-Day invasion’ star. The rear mounted replica radio mast features a period correct forty-eight star US flag, and the famed Normandy landings insignia of the world renowned 101st Airborne. Moreover, the front and rear bumpers have been correctly stencilled to represent a jeep belonging to the prestigious ‘Easy Company’ of the 101st. All of this, along with the jeep’s front toolbox, make for a thrilling tribute to ‘the greatest generation’. The overall visual presentation of this iconic military masterpiece is beyond impressive. This truly stunning WW2 jeep is a genuine piece of American living history; it represents ‘the greatest generation’ in their finest hour.
