1976 Jeep CJ-7 Restomod – AMC 360 V8 – Rust-Free YJ Tub – Dual Tops & Extras

Description:
Up for sale is a solid, highly functional 1976 Jeep CJ-7 daily driver. I drove this Jeep regularly as my main spring-through-fall cruiser until two years ago, when I bought a convertible Mustang. It has been driven minimally since then simply because it's competing for garage time, and it's time to let someone else enjoy it.This Jeep combines classic CJ style with mechanical upgrades chosen for power, utility, and absolute rust prevention. This is a functional, turn-key restomod daily driver, not a matching-numbers trailer queen.

Premium Body & Proper Rust Repair:
  • Rust-Free Body (YJ Tub Swap): Swapped with a clean Wrangler YJ tub (believed to be a 1991) to permanently solve the classic CJ rust issues. It retains pure vintage CJ style with the original 1976 front clip, fenders, dash, and windshield frame.
  • Proper Metal Work: When the Jeep was painted about 8 years ago, the rust on the floor panels and a couple of other common spots was properly addressed—the old rusted sections were completely cut out and fresh new metal was welded in. No cheap body filler fixes.
  • Durable Coatings: The entire inside of the tub is lined with rugged bed-liner (could use a fresh coat). The underside of the tub and the frame have been completely painted with heavy-duty Por-15 rust-preventative paint.
Powertrain & Mechanical Upgrades:
  • Engine: Upgraded AMC 360ci V8 sourced from an early '70s Cherokee/Wagoneer. Sounds great, packs tons of torque, and features a Holley 4-barrel carburetor paired with a Mallory HyFire 6A electronic ignition box.
  • Cooling and starting: Installed new heavy-duty aluminum radiator, fresh hoses, and a new starter motor at refresh.
  • Maintenance: Features a newer timing chain and sprockets.
  • Drivetrain: Robust 3-speed T150 manual transmission mated to a transfer case equipped with a dual-stick/twin-stick shifter setup.
  • Exhaust: Full system from the manifolds back through the tailpipe was completely replaced when the vehicle was painted about 8 years ago. It has only seen minimal, seasonal spring-to-fall usage since then and is in solid shape.
Electrical & Comfort Features:
  • 100% Brand-New Wiring: Entire electrical system has been overhauled with a complete new aftermarket wiring harness and modern fuse block. None of the typical 70s electrical gremlins.
  • Upgraded headlights: New LED headlights to provide much improved driving
  • Tops & Doors (Complete Dual Package): Includes a full factory hardtop and matching hard doors for colder months, plus a soft top with split doors for summer cruising.
  • Stance: Rides on a 2" suspension lift and a small body lift, clearing 33" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw TTC with good tread remaining. Includes a rear tumble-down seat.
Extra Parts Included in Sale:
  • Extra complete transmission/transfer case & extra bell housing.
  • Aftermarket rear tire swing-out carrier (not currently installed).
  • Original tire swing components (not currently installed).
  • New transmission tunnel cover (no holes cut yet for the twin sticks) and new leather shifter boot covers for the transmission/transfer case sticks.
  • Brand-new replacement speedometer cluster assembly.
Things to Know (Honest & Transparent Disclosure):
I believe in complete transparency so no one's time is wasted. This is a running, driving vehicle, but it has a few minor quirks typical of an older mechanical project:
  • The gauges currently do not work (I am including the brand-new, uninstalled speedometer cluster to fix this).
  • The tailgate hinges have some interior rust so they do not pivot well allowing the tailgate to lower properly. I have a new set of hinges that is included.
  • The parking brake is currently non-functional (all underlying parts were replaced, but it still requires final adjustment/troubleshooting).
  • The front right tire has a slow air leak.
  • Seats are solid but have typical rips and age fading
  • Typical of a classic AMC V8, it has a notable oil drip around the oil pan/bellhousing area when sitting.
  • Really have no idea how many miles are on the Jeep. You know how they roll over at 99,999...and dont always work :) Jeep Life!
