The Awesome Toyota Land Cruiser FJ62

In 1986, about 6 years after Toyota started producing the 60 Series, they released the FJ62 as a replacement. It had many of the same awesome characteristics of the 60, but added some power in the form of an electronically fuel injected 3F inline 6 cylinder motor, replaced the round single headlamps with dual rectangular units, and included larger side-view mirrors. The FJ62 was produced until 1990 when it was replaced by the bigger, rounder 80 Series Land Cruiser.

Let’s take a look at some valuation data behind the predecessor of the 80-Series. As you can see, these things are hot, with 155 auction sales in the last year, nearly half of which have been in the last 12 months. The 5 year rolling average has more than doubled since early 2018 to an astounding $37,870 as of April 1, 2022. This one comes in comfortably below that, and shows as well or better than many similarly priced examples. See for yourself, courtesy of Classic.com.

The Specs & Condition

Zero rust!  That’s music to any offroad enthusiast, and not something most TLC fans are used to. Apparently this truck started its life in Colorado and shortly thereafter moved to Texas for most of its life before spending the last two years in the comfort of a garage outside of weekend trips up the mountains. The remainder of its life was spent in bone dry Santa Fe, New Mexico.

In terms of known flaws, the list is fairly short. For starters, the photos show that the original passenger seat does have a tear that will need repair or replacement. The Safari team also reports that the front axle seals will soon need to be replaced alongside the oil pressure sending unit. The 62 also has an A/C unit that works, but will soon need servicing, one window that can go up slowly, and one of the locks sticks intermittently.
