Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon 280GE Convertible For Sale

SOLD  $79,540  | DESERT PRIVATE COLLECTION | PALM DESERT, CA

Have you been looking to buy a meticulously restored 1981 Mercedes-Benz G Wagon 280GE Convertible with a 4-speed manual transmission? Boy do I have some good news for you.

Desert Private Collection is selling a dandy for a price of $79,540. The current owner reportedly spent over $43,000 bringing this beauty back to life, which included a body-panel-off repaint, a thorough mechanical restoration, and an upgraded interior with luxuriously appointed surfaces. They even refinished and restored the original classic BBS wheels. Swoon.

A G-Wagon 280GE With a Story

An early 80’s G-Wagon is a desirable rig. But an uber-restored early 80’s G-Wagon with a story like this one is downright lust-worthy.

This 280GE started its life in Austria, but was quickly snatched up as new and exported by its new owner to their home in the United States. They lovingly cared for it until their passing in 1998 (RIP), after which it was left parked and unregistered for more than 20 years. (!!)

Fortunately, one of their neighbors, the current owner, rescued this beauty back in 2019 when they bought it and got it running again. After about 6 months of driving the survivor GE, they made the decision to get it professionally mechanically restored by a local family-owned shop called Sports Car Garage.

They subsequently had it professionally repainted with all body panels off the car and reupholstered with rich brown leather with light stitching, which was an upgrade. All surfaces of this G-Wagon have been addressed, right down to the original BBS wheels with black centers and polished lip.
