Not all Syclones are created equal. The lineage of this particular car is very special as the previous owner was none other than Kim Nielsen, the Syclone Program Manager and visionary behind the original Syclone program.

Nielsen, who served as the Syclone Program Manager during the late 1980s and early 1990s, led the team that developed this groundbreaking truck. His goal was to create a turbocharged, all-wheel-drive street truck with performance that could rival top sports cars. Under his leadership, GMC partnered with PAS (Production Automotive Services) to produce a factory-built pickup that famously out-accelerated a Ferrari 348 in Car and Driver testing.

While Kim Nielsen is not the original owner of this particular vehicle, he assumed ownership in May 2020 and has personally overseen its maintenance and upkeep since then. Given that the truck is more than 34 years old, his care and attention have been vital to preserving its condition.

This specific truck, VIN 01923, is one of several vehicles personally owned by Nielsen and holds special significance as one of the few examples directly tied to the vehicle’s creator. Finished in its original black exterior with black velvet interior, the Syclone is a California car with approximately 50,500 original miles. It remains in excellent condition thanks to Nielsen’s ongoing stewardship.

Notably, this truck features an all-original engine with the original turbocharger, original transmission, and factory exhaust system. It comfortably passes California emissions while delivering drag strip verified low 13-second quarter-mile runs.

Under Kim’s supervision, the steering gear box and suspension have been freshened using new parts from Sportmachines, including new factory-style Bilstein shocks. The heater core has been replaced and the air conditioning upgraded to modern standards. A new alternator, battery, water pump, and drive belt are installed. An electric fan has been added for additional cooling, and the clutch on the original fan has been replaced. The transmission has new fluid, along with a high-capacity transmission pan and an external cooler added for durability. New BF Goodrich Tires adorn the car with virtually zero miles on them. Full documentation of all repairs and upgrades is available.

The truck comes equipped with an aftermarket radio for modern convenience, but the original factory radio is fully functional and included in the sale.

Powered by a turbocharged 4.3L LB4 V6 producing 280 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission and full-time BorgWarner all-wheel drive, the Syclone retains factory sport bucket seats, air conditioning, and power accessories all fully operational. The sale includes extensive service and maintenance records from Nielsen’s ownership, providing detailed history and mechanical transparency.

This is more than a rare performance truck. It is a direct link to the Syclone’s creation, developed, driven, and carefully preserved by the man who built it. For collectors and enthusiasts, this is a unique chance to own one of the most historically significant GMC Syclones ever offered.
