Exterior Overview
Everyone knows that a turbodiesel Hilux Surf is a capable and tough rig. Often times, these things show a fair amount of use, but this one is Cars & Coffee ready. Recently refreshed in a coat of Lunar Rock (6X3), this rig is handsome as they get. Adorned with an OEM spare tire swingarm, black OEM 16″ alloys, and an optional OEM spoiler, the exterior parts list is just what every enthusiast wants. Fresh off a recent service, this SSR-G is offered with only 135k verified and documented miles on the clock. Turn key and ready to go, this safe and efficient 4×4 can haul the family to the campsite or pull double duty on the interstate for your daily commute. Reliable, inexpensive to maintain, and determined, this Japanese Classic is ready to butter your bread!

Interior Overview
The cabin is in good shape and includes several factory upgrades, optional equipment, and aftermarket goodies. For instance, the new owners of this lovable Surf will be able to enjoy this upcoming summer with their functional power moonroof, which can tilt and retract for a blast of fresh air. There was also a Pioneer audio upgrade in Japan. Faux wood trim adds a bit of class to the cabin and is a factory option. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and adjustable lumbar support to find the ideal driving position. The view of the road ahead is clear thanks to this rig’s tall ride height, and an OEM Field Monitor is mounted next to the map lights to display information about outside conditions to those sitting up front. Dual SRS airbags are standard equipment for this truck, and the dashboard lacks any cracking or distortion. Power locks, power windows, power mirrors, and electric rear glass all function, making daily use more enjoyable. If you happen to live in a seasonal climate, this Surf includes an automatic HVAC system. A recent A/C compressor replacement ensures the summer time is bearable and the heating system works like a charm, funneling piping hot heat through the vents. The Moon Mist upholstery is in above-average shape and lacks any major rips, stains, or tears. The door cards also feature this same material, tying everything together. The middle row can 4-way recline, split fold, and also tumble forward to create a flat loading floor. The headliner and carpets are in fine shape and have resisted major use and abuse over the years. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect, as we wanted to note the passenger mirror no longer power-folds, and the center armrest has a small slit. Still, at thirty years old, the cabin condition impresses, and we know this truck was clearly cared for in a life overseas. It even has a drop-down rearview mirror that retracts from the rear spoiler, providing a view of your rear bumper when reversing!

Mechanical Overview
Under the skin, this body-on-frame SUV has a reputation for toughness. The same can be said for the powerplant, the 1KZ-TE. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L chugs to life with the twist of the key. A new fuel filter and engine air filter were installed as part of our tune-up, and a coolant flush was performed, which won’t be needed for another four years. The 1K pulls hard as a horse to redline and creates gobs of low-end grunt. It feeds power through a stout automatic gearbox that is fresh off a fluid exchange. We bolstered the driveline with a new right rear axle seal prior to its VA state safety inspection. It gets up to highway merging speeds with ease, and if you are riding over loose surfaces, the 4WD can be engaged on the fly. Serious off-roaders will love the center locking differential. Combined with a low-range 4WD, this truck is nearly unstoppable off the beaten path. The suspension has been heavily refreshed by one of our trained technicians. New front and rear shocks smooth out the ride, and we installed new front sway bar links while we were working on the front end. We performed an alignment, and now this Toyota tracks straight as an arrow. The brakes were also rehabbed extensively. New front calipers, rotors, and front brake pads work in combination with new rear drums and shoes to keep stopping distances short. We also flushed the fluid to keep the pedal feel direct. The power steering is light and easy to articulate, and we mounted and balanced two new 31″ tires to complete our reconditioning. Freshly aligned, the new rubber will last for a long while to come!
