Overview
A Prado in the US? The KZJ77 is one of the most refined vintage Land Cruisers in the 70-series lineage. A left hand drive 1KZ-T 4 door wagon is almost impossible to find and rust buckets typically sell at 30,000 Euros in the European market. A coil sprung radius arm suspension was a huge step over leaf springs, and they had a number of unique features added to the interior, such as the “active comfort” suspension seats. They’re also set up for three row comfort for seven to eight people, despite being a little shorter and more compact than the typical long-wheelbase Troopy. And then you stack a turbocharged 3.0L 1KZ-T 3.0L diesel with a five-speed R150F manual behind it, with Toyota’s venerable two-speed VF2A transfercase, and you’ve got a bulletproof platform for a build.
We did approximately $2500 worth of work after the Land Cruiser had been in long term storage. Work included replacing the front brake pads, brake caliper, bleeding the brakes, battery cables and hold down, oil change, fuel filter, and repairing all of the power windows. This particular KZJ77 runs, drives, starts and stops but will probably need some additional work before daily driving or a cross country trek. Really just needs the cobwebs knocked off from being in storage. Contact us for an inspection report. Most issues are cosmetic and maintenance related, which can be addressed at the buyer’s request; or if you’re a gearhead who isn’t afraid of tackling it yourself, we’re offering it as-is.
The body is in overall great shape, appearing to wear its original Oyster Pearl paint. The grille trim up front needs some love, the roof has minor dents, and there is a minor pinhole from rust by where the rear pop-out windows have rubbed against the body with time, and along the pinch weld, but otherwise the body is straight and rust-free. The interior is a similar story. Carpets, seats, and plastics are all in good condition but may need some attention to address old-truck quirks and wear. Nothing too surprising for anyone getting into a 30-plus-year-old Toyota truck.
Underneath is more of the same, overall good condition with no signs of past accident repair, but the suspension will need some maintenance to drive like-new. This Prado runs the 8-inch diffs with 4.556:1 gears and a LSD, according to its G975 axle code. Also unique to the Euro-spec versions is that the 1KZ-T is non-EGR with a mechanical injection pump, eliminating a potential failure point from an aging ECU or emissions system.
We’ve had requests in the past to offer one of these rare Land Cruisers at the best price possible, and now’s your chance to pick one out of our lot before it undergoes service work at shop-rate.
