cleanThis 2014 EarthRoamer XV-LT pairs Ford F-550 Super Duty underpinnings with EarthRoamer’s proven four-season expedition platform, but “Big Red” has a distinction all its own: according to the seller, it is the only XV-LT ever built in Ruby Red. Originally constructed as a fully optioned spec truck, it has since been extensively used, maintained and upgraded for real-world travel across the country. The biggest recent update is under the hood: its 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 was replaced at approximately 70,000 miles, with fewer than 7,000 miles currently on the warrantied replacement engine.
- One-of-One Ruby Red: The seller states that “Big Red” is the only Ruby Red EarthRoamer ever produced. Originally built as a spec truck, it was equipped with an extensive list of EarthRoamer options from new and has continued to evolve under its current ownership.
- Fresh Power Stroke: The F-550 is powered by a replacement 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V8 installed at approximately 70,000 miles. The new engine has fewer than 7,000 miles on it and is reportedly still under warranty. A new exhaust and new truck battery bank are among the additional recent mechanical updates.
- Serious Expedition Hardware: The XV-LT rides on 41-inch Continental MPT-81 military tires mounted to beadlock wheels, with King shocks, a heavy-duty sway bar and adjustable air suspension that can also be used to level the camper. Front and rear 16,500-pound winches provide recovery capability, while a Baja Designs lighting package adds LP9s, S1s, Squadron Sport ambers and XL80s.
- Upgraded Living Space: Inside is a king-size over-cab bed with a Froli spring system, dual power couches that convert into additional sleeping space, swing-out work/dining tables and extensive cabinetry. Entertainment includes Bose 5.1 surround sound, a new 4K TV, Apple TV, Nvidia Shield and Nintendo Switch dock. The kitchen has been updated with a dual induction cooktop, convection microwave, new faucet and upgraded water pump.
- Four-Season Ready: Designed for extended off-grid travel, Big Red carries 90 gallons of fresh water, 90 gallons of diesel and 1,200 watts of solar. A replacement Espar D2 diesel heater, upgraded Vanglass windows and shades, custom pass-through cold-weather cushions and cab reflector shades further improve its cold-weather capability. The rare dry-bath layout separates the shower from the cassette toilet area, making it especially useful for extended travel and drying wet gear.
EarthRoamer XV-LTs are purpose-built around the idea of traveling far beyond traditional RV infrastructure, and Big Red has already done exactly that. The seller reports using it extensively in the desert, mountains, at high altitude, throughout Canada and on both U.S. coasts. Its combination of a recently replaced engine, significant electrical and interior upgrades, extensive storage and one-of-one Ruby Red finish separates it from a typical early XV-LT. Two large exterior storage boxes sit at the rear, supplemented by a large trunk area and additional vertical storage locker, creating valuable space on a vehicle designed to support weeks or months on the road.
